Letter from the President

Hello everyone!

Welcome to Gamma Eta Chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma at Washington State University; my name is Megan Duffy and I am the president for the 2016 academic year. Gamma Eta is a strong chapter filled with women of great character and grace, I am so excited to serve our community along side them and to work with them to continually foster excellence at our school.

A little about me: I am a junior here at Washington State, majoring in Human Development with the goal of one day becoming a counselor or a social worker in the greater Seattle area. I grew up on the west side of the state in Bothell with my parents and my perfect little siblings, Madison and Matthew. At thirteen years old, my brother and sister are rocking middle school and are already WAY cooler than I am :).

My family away from home is composed of all my Kappa sisters, who are as intelligent as they are beautiful. Academics are, and have always been a definite priority for our house; the girls work really hard to keep us among the top ranking academic chapters on campus. The diversity of our members is amazing as we have girls majoring in everything from neuroscience to apparel merchandizing, from pre-law to environmental science.

One of the coolest things that I have learned in my time at WSU is that college is a lot about the people who you meet as well as the connections and friends that you are able to make. In Kappa I found a sisterhood that was incredibly strong. Every month we have an organized sisterhood where every member in the house participates in an activity. Some of the sisterhoods we have had in the past include pottery painting, a challenge course, ginger bread house making, pumpkin carving and an all-house sit down thanksgiving dinner. The stories and times of laughter that come out of these events are moments that I will never forget.

One thing I love about Kappa is our philanthropy. At Gamma Eta we not only participate in our national philanthropy, Reading is Fundamental, but we also work to support our local organizations. Kappa has partnerships with the Pullman Child Welfare Association and with another child assistance program called Building Blocks. We believe that even though most of us are only in college for a short time, we must bloom where we are planted and learn to truly become a helpful part of the community around us.

Kappa Kappa Gamma is proud to be apart of the Panhellenic community at WSU and we will continue to grow strong relationships with the other sorority and fraternity chapters on campus as we also work to become a better chapter from within. I know that I would not be the same person that I am today without each one of my amazing Kappa sisters. It is a privilege to know these girls; they have made such an impact on me and I know that they will continue to be people of grace and to continue the Kappa legacy even long after our time in college has passed.

Loyally,

Megan Duffy
